Barcelona are thinking about pulling off a sensational move for Real Madrid playmaker Isco, according to Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo.
The Malaga native’s deal expires in 2018, and Isco is apparently admired at the Nou Camp for his quality, age – 24 – and marketing opportunity.
Isco’s contract renewal with Los Blancos is unclear and it is alleged that he would be paid a signing-on bonus if he arrived at Barca on a free transfer.
Sportsmail reported on Wednesday that the 17-time Spain international has assumed a more regular first-team role under Zinedine Zidane in recent weeks and is keen to safeguard his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Isco has been linked with potential moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus but hopes to extend his Real deal beyond its current 2018 expiry date.
‘I still have one-and-a-half years left on my current contract,’ Isco said.
‘But the club and I are both keen to renew. I hope we can sort something out.
‘I am getting regular playing time now and I am happy to be able to help the team.’
Isco scored a last-gasp equaliser for Spain against England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, November 15 as the visitors snatched a 2-2 draw in the friendly.
