Chelsea Boss Antonio Conte ‘Desperate’ To Land Spain Euro 2016 Hero

Juventus striker Álvaro Morata announced his arrival at Euro 2016 with a brilliant display against Turkey on Friday, and new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to see heroics like that at Stamford Bridge next season.

Spain secured qualification for the knockout stages with a convincing 3-0 win in Nice, with Morata grabbing a goal either side of half time.

Having opened discussions to sign the player before the tournament even began, Chelsea’s determination to land Morata has been ramped up, as per a report in Italian outlet Calciomercato.

The 2015 Premier League champions are in the market for at least one new striker, as doubts continue to hang over the Stamford Bridge future of controversial forward Diego Costa.

Real Madrid are expected to exercise their €30million buy back option on the 23 year old before selling him on at a profit. Manchester United, Arsenal and PSG have all been linked with the striker but Conte, who initially brought Morata to Juve before quitting soon after, believes his club’s bid will be successful.

Morata’s esteem for new Manchester United boss José Mourinho could cause Chelsea problems, but Conte will persevere regardless.

To that end, the report alleges that the incoming Blues manager has been phoning Morata every day in an effort to convince him to sign, just as he did when talking the forward into leaving Real Madrid in the summer of 2014.

He has since gone on to become one of Europe’s most sought after young strikers – despite his goal return not yet reaching prolific levels, it is believed that he will progress to becoming one of the best centre forwards in the world.

As such, Real are likely to look for roughly €50m to secure Morata’s services – and Conte’s willingness to get this deal over the line suggests that the final fee could be near enough that figure.
