Couple saved by a Selfie after being stranded on Cliff Edge

The tech-savvy pair were walking in the Peak District when they scrambled up a steep bank and got stuck at the top

A young couple that got stuck on a cliffside in the Peak District were rescued after sending a selfie to emergency crews.

The two 20-somethings had scrambled up a steep bank near the top of Winnats Pass, Derbyshire, before getting stuck.

But the quick-thinking twosome were saved on Sunday after sending rescue staff a selfie they had taken earlier on that day

And Edale Mountain Rescue said it was the first-ever “selfie rescue” they had seen.

Duty leader and medical officer Steve Rowe said six members of the team were sent to rescue the uninjured pair.

He told the BBC: “They had described the location very well, and then one said: ‘I’ve got an idea, I’ll send you a picture as well’, saying they were in a shadow cave in the background of the picture
