Pound-for-pound kings Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev are set to go to war for the latter’s light-heavyweight titles in November.
Following the disappointing likelihood that middleweight stars Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin won’t clash in a superfight, the sport required an alternative spectacle.
Seasoned boxing fans will rejoice that Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor isn’t the marquee fight announced.
Instead, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the newly-built T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will host the long-awaited ‘Ward vs. Kovalev’ fight on November
The catch is that the fight is dependent on both men coming through their respective summer bouts victorious. ‘Krusher’ Kovalev will take on Isaac Chilemba on July 11, while the ‘Soldier of God’, who’s due to compete on August 6 in his home-state of California, hasn’t had an opponent announced yet.
Both men are undefeated to date, having collectively defeated the likes of Carl Froch, Bernard Hopkins, Chad Dawson and Nathan Cleverly.
The T Mobile arena was Christened by the showdown between ‘Canelo’ and Amir Khan last month, and is due to host UFC 200 on July 9.
