Actress Josephine Gillan has revealed that her role in Game of Thrones as a prostitute saved her from a life of prostitution.
The star – who played Marei in the HBO fantasy drama – has revealed the shocking truth in a new interview as she talks about her journey from sex worker to serious actress.

The star revealed that she was working as a prostitute and making adult films under a different name when she saw the advert for the show which she saw as her escape
After a chaotic childhood destroyed by sexual abuse, drugs and alcohol, she attended 24 different primary schools and was taken into care aged 12.
Placed in a household where was groomed by a family friend who got her hooked on cannabis and cocaine by the age of 14, the grooming took a dark turn.
“He raped me two years later and then pimped me out to his friends. I was too frightened to tell anyone because he threatened to bury me in the garden if I did.”
But the actress managed to escape and win a role in the Emmy-winning series, one that she will soon reprise.
